Class six rapids turn solid in mid streak under the marbled surface of the frozen Zanskar River in Ladakh. Every kayaker's summer dream, the wateryway transforms into a winter highway for the villagers of Zanskar, when snow renders all land routes impassable

  • Very grateful to have seen this great photo at the Banff Mountain Film Festival, it has several surreal elements (especially the curvature of the windswept ice which I still do not comprehend, plus the adventurer seemingly not touching the ground) and won for "best photo: mountain adventure", congratulations. As a Canadian outdoors person I go on lots of types of ice but have not seen this before.

Is it a crop? At ISO100 it seems grainy for a D200. I would be interested in see the high(er) resolution image but don't know if that's possible?
